My grand-daughters in Papua New Guinea Facetimed me this morning to remind me that today was Australian Flag Day.
Amelia (12) and Lillian (10) are living in Port Moresby with my daughter Amy and her partner Gavin who are both working in PNG.
The young girls proudly waved their Aussie flags and informed me they would be taking the flags to school this morning for their “show and tell” sessions.
My jaw dropped when they told me the flags were manufactured in China. They then asked me why Australian flags weren’t produced in Australia.
I mumbled something about price and convenience but the girls were not impressed.
The incident gave me an opportunity to promise the girls that I would send them Australian-manufactured flags for National Flag Day 2021 so they can show their true patriotism.
